Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber, was just crowned Miss USA 2016 at the conclusion of the pageant’s live broadcast tonight. She successfully navigated the swimsuit, evening gown, and forever-feared (also, very controversial) Q&A round, in the latter instance dealing with a question regarding women in the military with pageant aplomb; in otherwise-unrelated news, her military credentials were much-touted as the pageant played out also. She receives her tiara from Miss USA 2015, Oklahoma’s Olivia Jordan. Miss Hawaii, Chelsea Hardin, took the first runner-up spot (and, it should be noted, could well have suffered from the night’s toughest Q&A moment), followed by Miss Georgia, Emanii Davis in third. Miss California, Nadia Mejia, and Miss Alabama, Peyton Brown, rounded out the top five.
