A pair of Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jets were shot down in eastern Ukraine over an area called Savur Mogila, according to the country’s Defense Ministry.
The planes were reported shot down as the first bodies from the Malaysia Airlines crash in eastern Ukraine were returned to the Netherlands.
The Sukhoi-25 fighters were shot down at 1:30 p.m. local time over Savur Mogila. Savur Mogila is about 21 miles from Grabovo, the village where Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashed last week.
Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksiy Dmitrashkovsky said the military planes may have been carrying up to two crew members each.
Another military jet was shot down near the border on July 17 , a night before the MH 17 crash.
